ARTIST BIO
Karen Cornils Veeder
Karen Veeder was born and raised in a small country town in northern Illinois. Through her public school she was introduced to foreign exchange programs, traveling to France to stay with a family and hosting students from France and Colombia. The combination of international travel and exposure to other cultures made her a lifelong student of the arts. Karen is currently finishing her B.A. in Studio Art at Northern Illinois University. She states “the variety of influences I have had the opportunity to experience here have given me direction to discover my own voice in my paintings and express relatable emotions of the human condition.” Karen’s paintings use bold colors and various painting techniques within the same work to tell a story. “Storytelling is universally enjoyed from children to the elderly - painting gives me an outlet to tell a story in the time it takes to look at my artwork. I started out writing stories and poems as a kid, really enjoying putting a twist in at the end. Hopefully, viewers see the work with their own ‘life lens’ and create their own narrative.”
